The 1595 siege of Târgoviște (Tergovist), copper etching, on paper, from the “Chronologia oder historische Beschreibung” of Hieronymus Ortelius cca. 1602 -1620 On 18th October 1595, Michael the Brave (Mihai Viteazul in Romanian), the ruler of Walachia, conquered the city of Târgoviște from the ottoman army. On the sky is shown a comet which was visible on 15th of October for 2 hours over the city and the army camp.
